Brainstem Auditory Evoked Response testing (BAER)

Brainstem Auditory Evoked Response testing (BAER) is a method that lets us objectively evaluate your pet’s ability to hear.  We can follow the electrical signals produced by your loved one’s inner ear and brain to demonstrate their ability to hear sounds.  We had a specialist in veterinary hearing tests come out from California to help us ‘fine-tune’ our equipment.  We can even tell if a pet is deaf in only one ear! This is very helpful in evaluating behavior problems in old dogs, or decreased performance in working dogs (hunting, police/military, protection, etc.).

For puppies and kittens, we can certify that your new ‘emotional investment’ or the litter you’re looking to find ‘furever’ families for won’t have trouble learning how to fit in.  There are several breeds that are known to have a genetic deafness, but it can happen to any pet.

Keep in mind, though, that while our advanced tools and knowledge can let us demonstrate and certify your pet’s ability to hear.  Science still hasn’t been able to figure out why they sometimes don’t listen!

Hopefully, this has given you a little more insight and understanding of what our BAER machine is and how it works.  We’re very proud of it!  But like any other tool, it is only as useful as the skilled individuals at the controls.  If you’d like to know more about our machine, don’t hesitate to ask!
